How to burn HD video to DVD to Play on a Blue Ray Player?

I have a bunch of HD mkv,avi,mpg4, and mpg videos and some of them I would like to burn to dvd. I really hope to keep the HD video and high bitrates and be able to play them on my LG blue ray player. I also don't particularly want to spend any money. I have an HD video converter so I can make them into DVDs or any other type of video file but when I convert to dvd it downscales the video and lessens the bitrate alot. The videos just don't look as good as there HD counterpart. Is there a method to put these videos on DL dvd without killing the HD and watching them on my player? I seek the communities knowledge and help. Thanks
